Do police clean crime scenes?
No. Police officers and Crime Scene Investigators handle law-enforcement duties such as scene security, documentation, evidence collection and investigation. They generally do not perform the post-release biological remediation of the property.
Who is responsible after police leave?
Once the appropriate authority releases the scene, the owner, family, landlord, property manager or another authorized representative normally arranges cleanup. A specialty remediation company can assess blood, bodily fluids, tissue, decomposition contamination and affected building materials.
Why is cleanup a separate job?
Evidence processing and remediation have different purposes. Investigators preserve and document evidence. Cleanup professionals focus on safely addressing the physical aftermath after that investigative work is complete.
