CSI direct answer

What to Do After Police Release a Crime Scene

Once police release a scene, restrict access, identify the authorized property decision-maker, document only what is necessary, and contact a specialty cleanup provider.

Law enforcement investigates a crime scene but generally does not perform property cleanup. Avoid touching blood, bodily fluids, damaged porous materials, or items in the affected area. Do not move affected belongings through clean rooms. Confirm who has authority for the property, note insurer instructions when applicable, and arrange an assessment.
